Although the unemployment rate across the country is still extremely high it surprises me to know that the employee turnover rate at most firms is also at an all time high in some cases. Companies are constantly looking for a new hire. There are a variety of reasons why the turnover exists, but the fact that companies aren’t spending more time trying to retain employees is surprising to me. They spend a lot of effort and time in the recruitment process going through lots of interviews and screening to ensure that they are bringing in a high quality of employee, but then the employee starts their position and determines that it is not going to work for them. Companies may need to be more clear about expectations so that a worker won’t start a new job if they think they are not going to like it. Workers must not be that desperate if they are willing to leave so soon after just being hired.
